About Canasta.now

Canasta.now is a free home for the game the world went crazy for in the early 1950s: Canasta, the melding game whose name is simply Spanish for "basket". We built it for the millions of people who love shuffling two decks together, hoarding red threes, and racing to lock away that first seven-card canasta. Open the page and you are dealt a fresh hand against a thoughtful computer opponent in seconds, with nothing to install and no account required. Our mission is straightforward: keep real Canasta fast, faithful to the rules, and free for everyone, on any device.

Why we made a home for Canasta

Canasta spread from Uruguay and Argentina in the 1940s and swept the United States between 1950 and 1952, outselling almost every other card game of its day. Yet good, honest versions of it online are surprisingly hard to find. We wanted a place where you could sit down to a proper partnership deal, understand the scoring at a glance, and play the way the game was meant to be played. Start with Classic Canasta, the two-deck partnership game most people picture, or jump straight into the marathon fun of Hand and Foot. It is all free, and it always will be.

What Canasta.now offers

A lot of card sites feel cluttered and slow. We built ours to feel clean, quick, and generous.

• Play free against the computer. Every variant runs in your browser against a computer opponent that melds, freezes the pile, and goes out like a real partner or rival.
• 11 Canasta variants. From Classic and Two-Handed to Samba, Bolivia, Brazilian, Uruguay, Modern American, Cuban and Italian, the whole family is here.
• A daily deal. One seeded hand per day, identical for every player, so you can compare scores and build a streak on the Daily Challenge.
• Leaderboards. Chase the biggest scores and see how your canastas stack up against everyone else on the leaderboard.
• Real-time multiplayer. Deal the same cards to a friend and play a live head-to-head match in our multiplayer rooms.
• Optional Google sign-in. Sign in with Google to save your best scores to the leaderboard across devices. It is optional, and you never need it just to play.
• No downloads, no clutter. Nothing to install, nothing to update, and no pop-ups fighting for your attention between you and the cards.

How the games play

We care about getting the details right. Every deal is shuffled from a fair, seeded shoe, which means the cards are random but repeatable. That is what lets two players share the same multiplayer hand or the same daily deal. Card values follow the traditional scoring (jokers 50, aces and twos 20, kings through eights 10, and the low cards 5), a natural canasta is worth 500 and a mixed one 300, and each variant sets its own target, from 5,000 up to 15,000 points. Your stats, streaks, and settings are saved right in your browser, so you can play as a guest and keep your progress. Sign in with Google when you want your best scores to sync to the leaderboards. It is optional, and playing never requires it.

Canasta.now is for anyone who enjoys a smart melding game. Maybe you grew up watching family members build canastas at the kitchen table and want to relive it. Maybe you are brand new and want a friendly place to learn the difference between a natural and a mixed canasta. Maybe you love the deep, long-form strategy of Bolivia and Uruguay, or the quick two-player duel where you draw two cards and keep all four red threes. Beginners can learn on the rules pages, and seasoned players can chase higher scores and cleaner canastas. There is room for both.

We keep a few simple standards:

• Accurate rules. Each variant follows its traditional rules and scoring, so what you learn here carries straight over to a real pair of decks.
• Honest difficulty. We tell you plainly how tough each variant is and what it takes to win, instead of pretending every hand is an easy victory.
• Privacy-respecting. The only account system is optional Google sign-in, we keep data collection light, and we explain exactly what we store in our privacy policy.
